GUIDE LINES IN SELECTING THE RIGHT REMEDY
But when are you going to give on remedy and when another?
ANSWERING THIS QUESTION WOULD GIVE YOU WHAT IS HOMOEOPATHY AND HOW IT IS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER METHODS OF TREATMENT.
Now we will see how each remedy covers the measles (common symptoms) and rare peculiar uncommon symptoms as well as general that whole , latter two are essential for drug selection. With remedies aconite, apis, bryonia, euphrasia, pulsatilla, sulphur, let us see how we can select a remedy.
READ THE COMMON AND RARE PECULIAR UNCOMMON SYMPTOMS AS WELL AS GENERAL SYMPTOMS OF THE FOLLOWING REMEDIES FROM WHICH WE HAVE TO SELECT MOST APPROPRIATE REMEDY
ACONITE: At the beginning of measles, fever with full pulse, dry hot, burning skin, restlessness, catarrhal irritation, from the eyes down to bronchial tube; photophobia; nose bleeds; dry, hacking ,even croupy cough; stitching pain in chest; restless sleep, with jerking and starting; grating on teeth; moaning and groaning, or sleeplessness ,with great agitation and anxiety; pain in stomach and bowels, with vomiting and diarrhea.
APIS MELLIFICA: Confluent eruption and oedematous swelling of the skin; greatly inflamed eyes; croupy cough; violent cough, similar to whoophing cough; catarrh of bowels with diarrhea.
BRYONIA: slowly forthcoming eruption, which remain pale; inflammatory affection of the chest; dry painful cough; rheumatic pain in limbs; constipation. Retrocession of eruption, with prostration, with fever and cerebral symptoms.
EUPHRASIA: Streaming of hot burning tears from eyes, with great photophobia; profuse running from the nose without burning; cough only during the day; bland intense throbbing, pressing headache before eruption comes out.
PULSATILLA: Catarrahal symptoms prominent, coryza and profuse lachrymation; cough dry at night time and loose at day, child sits up in bed to cough; earache,; fever with hot head and dry lips, but complains very little thirst; eruptions when fully out often has dark appearance; itching of the eyes, ameliorated by rubbing; dry lips ameliorated by licking them with tongue; chronic loose cough after measles.
SULPHUR: Either during the first stage when the eruption makes a tardy progress, or for after complaints such as chronic coughs originating in remnants of partial pneumonia; chronic diarrhea; hardness of hearing; chronic discharge from ears.
Suppose we have a case of measles how will you differentiate the medicine and select the right remedy for the patient. Here we have three steps in selecting the right remedy.
THREE STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED WHILE SELECTING A REMEDY.
STEP ONE
As you go through all these remedies you can see something in common to all remedy which are least useful in selection of a remedy. All of the remedy produce eruptions, conjunctivitis, fever ,cough. You can see all this in every patients of measles also. These are common symptoms which gives only rough idea of medicines that can produce measles.
STEP TWO
Find out if there are any rare peculiar, uncommon symptoms in patient that is seen only found on one or two remedy. If we could find that uncommon symptoms in a patient then that is the remedy. I am taking few examples of rare uncommon peculiar characteristic remedy of the above mentioned medicines.
Measles which are inflammatory condition and all discharges should be burning in nature. Nasal discharge of euphrasia does not have characteristic burning even during the fever stage.
Fever with little or no thirst is another characteristic,
uncommon symptoms which when present is an indication of pulsatilla.
In acute conditions it is enough to follow two steps
THIRD STAGE [most essential step in all chronic disease]
Because presence of rare, uncommon peculiar symptoms are very
rare we usually depends on generals, that affect the patient as a whole.
Read the generals the following remedies.

After going through the remedies as well as the case to be cured ,it is essential that rare uncommon peculiar remedy should match with the symptoms of the patient in acute conditions or it is essential that generals should match with disease especially in chronic disease.
NOTE: However generals may be present in acute disease also can be considered and rare peculiar symptoms present in chronic disease may also be indicate the right remedy.
Now, what have you gathered together?
You have gathered together an evidence of the general state.
Kent says "You may have many cases of malignant scarlet fever, and you will find that you can manage them with your remedies as you would an unruly horse with reins."
GUIDE LINES IN GRADING THE SYMPTOMS
The value of symptoms is divided into three grades.
General symptoms are divided into three grades, first, second and third, and common symptoms and particular symptoms are divided into the same three grades.
You will see in Boenninghausen a fourth grade, but as a matter of fact these remedies do not form a grade; they are only
provisional remedies, requiring demonstration by reproving and clinical confirmation.
The general symptoms of the first grade:
are such as all or the majority of provers state of themselves as a class of
provers. kent has given us examples
" For instance, take that symptom of Apis, "suffocation in a warm room"; all the provers of Apis, or nearly all were effected to a great extent in that way.
All the provers of Pulsatilla were worse in a warm room.
There can be no doubt about such symptoms for all the provers felt that state so strongly.
Kali-hyd., Pulsatilla, Iodine and Apis are among those that have that symptom in the first grade, worse in a warm room, suffocation in a warm room.
Now when those symptoms which have existed as generals among the provers come into the experience of the practitioner, and are confirmed, by curing those states extensively, wherever administered, for years, then these remedies are fully entitled to this grade.
When only one prover has recorded a certain symptom, it is doubtful whether that is a symptom from the action of the remedy, but when several provers have recorded the same symptom it becomes confirmed.
When that symptom has been removed or cured by the remedy in the hands of a physician, it can then be said to have been verified."
So symptoms are
| recorded, | |
| confirmed by reprovings, and | |
| verified upon the sick. |
FIRST GRADE SYMPTOMS
First grade symptoms in general

EXAMPLE: When numerous provers have maintained that Puls. is worse in a warm room, and this is confirmed by other provers, and then verified by cure upon the sick, it immediately places Pulsatilla in the first grade of that general state.
First grade in particular symptoms

EXAMPLE: Suppose that it were something that was in relation to the bladder;
Puls. has a symptom of frequent urination; now, that is immediately classified as a particular symptom because it relates to a region.
Now, if all of these provers had irritable bladder when they took Puls. that would be a confirmation of it, and if it cures for years experience verifies it and it is then placed as belonging to Pulsatilla under the particulars, and marked in the highest grade.
First grade in common symptoms
EXAMPLE: So with the symptom of bearing down, which also comes under Pulsatilla; that would be classed as a common symptom, but of the first grade.
SECOND GRADE SYMPTOMS
Suppose now that there are more symptoms that have only been brought out by a few of the
provers; they do not run through the whole family of provers, but they have been confirmed and occasionally verified; then you see they are not entitled to so much consideration and as a matter of degree they belong to the second grade, because not so strong as the first grade, which produces these
symptoms upon everybody or nearly everybody.
THIRD GRADE SYMPTOMS

Now and then a prover brings out a symptom and it has not yet been confirmed by reproving, but it stands out pretty strong, and seems to be worthy of a third place, or it has been verified by having cured sick
, or on the other hand it is admitted as a clinical symptom. Sometimes close and
careful observers have noticed certain symptoms in mild form , in the proving,
and others have confirmed this by their clinical experience; these symptoms are admitted to go into the third grade.
FOURTH GRADE OF BOENNINGHAUSEN
A great many of Boenninghausen's fourth grade symptoms really belong to the third grade, because Boenninghausen was very cautious with the symptoms that had never been verified.
His fourth grade remedies include such as
| he had gathered from his clinical experience, and he was doubtful about the modesty of placing them in third grade, and | |
| also those symptoms that occurred in the provers but had not proper confirmation
by reproving or were not verified by curing. |
